This is the only original millhouse that is preserved in Bokn. The farms at Vatnaland, Trælhaug and Laupland have all through the years had their millhouses here.
A mill race brought water to the turbine below the millhouse.
Originally, there was also a granary for drying and storing grain and a ramp for careening vessels a bit further down by the sea. Just west of the ramp is the foundation of a boathouse from the Migration Period (ca. 375 – 550 A.D).
The stream mills have roots back to at least the High Middle Ages.
The local farmers would often spend the night in the mill while the grain was ground. As a pastime, they would often carve figures into the mill wall. This was usually vessels that belonged to Bokn.

Mühlenhaus für drei Höfe
Dies ist das einzige erhaltene Originalmühlenhaus in Bokn. Seit jeher hatten hier die Bauernhöfe Vatnaland, Trælhaug und Laupland ihre Mühlen.
Ein Wasserlauf speiste die Turbine unterhalb des Mühlenhauses.
Ursprünglich gab es hier auch ein Trockenhaus für Getreide und etwas weiter flussabwärts am Meer eine Kielrampe für Schiffe. Westlich der Kielrampe befindet sich ein Bootshausfundament aus der Völkerwanderungszeit. Die Bachmühlen lassen sich mindestens bis ins Hochmittelalter zurückverfolgen.
Abends und nachts verbrachten die Bauern die Nacht in der Mühle, während das Getreide gemahlen wurde. Wie damals üblich, schnitzten sie Figuren in die Mühlenwand, insbesondere Schiffe, die zu Bokn gehörten. Heute gehört das Gebäude zum Haugaland Museum.
