This is a memorial to the hard timed when the "white plague" - tuberculosis - was ravaging. Tuberculosis was especially feared because it particularly affected young people. In this house on the farm at Gunnarstad, nine out of eleven family members died of the disease in the period between 1909 to 1918.
In 1918, the building was burned down out of fear of the infection. Since then, people were afraid to approach the grounds, and children were forbidden to play there. The practice of burning down houses where there had been tuberculosis was also common in other places in Bokn.

Verbrannte Ruine eines Bauernhauses in Gunnarstad
Dies ist eine Erinnerung an die schwere Zeit, als die Tuberkulose – die sogenannte „weiße Pest“ – wütete. Besonders gefürchtet war sie, weil sie vor allem junge Menschen befiel. In diesem Haus in Gunnarstad starben zwischen 1909 und 1918 neun von elf Familienmitgliedern an der Krankheit.
1918 wurde das Gebäude aus Angst vor Ansteckung niedergebrannt. Seitdem verabscheuten die Menschen den Ort, und Kindern wurde verboten, in den Mauern zu spielen. Auch an anderen Orten in Bokn war es üblich, Häuser niederzubrennen, die von Tuberkulose befallen waren.
